Depression

While occasional sadness is a normal part of life, sometimes these feelings become overwhelming and persistent. This is when depression can take hold.

Symptoms of depression can include:

  • Intense sadness or low mood
  • Difficulty sleeping or sleeping too much.
  • Loss of motivation or interest in activities
  • Feelings of emptiness or numbness
  • Difficulty functioning in daily life.

Specialised group therapy programs provide an opportunity for people to learn more about their illness and develop coping skills to better manage their lives.

Programs aim to have the patient become aware of the relationship between their internal experiences and their behaviour.

The expected outcome for the patient will include an improvement in their ability to make better choices guided by their values.

They will also learn through psychological skills and strategies to better deal with emotional discomfort.
