Profile

Dr Lekgabe provides her patients with a calm and secure environment to explore, understand and manage mental health during and after pregnancy. She has experience in treating a variety of psychiatric presentations, including preconception counselling, infertility, anxiety and fears relating to childbirth, birth trauma, perinatal loss, adjustment to parenting, and perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. She provides an integrated approach to care that incorporates the unique biological, psychological, social, cultural and spiritual factors contributing to the issues a woman is experiencing, with a focus on early identification and prevention.

When prescribing medication during pre-conception, pregnancy and post-partum period, Dr Lekgabe collaborates with women and their loved ones to support an informed decision about medication. While medication can be an important part of treatment, Dr Lekgabe assesses well-being in a holistic way, focussing on optimising environmental factors such as nutrition, stress reduction practices such as exercise, mindfulness and self-compassion, and enhancing social support.

Dr Lekgabe does not do assessments or write reports for third parties such as employers, insurance companies or courts.
