Dr Michael Lau

Treatment Services

Dr Lau is a consultant psychiatrist trained in addiction and adult psychiatry. His treatment services include inpatient and outpatient psychiatric care tailored to individual needs and cultural backgrounds. He has experience in managing addiction, mood disorders, OCD, PTSD, generalised anxiety disorders and psychosis including TMS and psychedelic assited therapy and trauma-informed addiction services.

About Dr Lau

Dr Lau completed his medical training at the University of Aberdeen, United Kingdom. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and is trained in addiction and adult psychiatry.

In addition to his private psychiatric practice, Dr Lau works in the public hospital sector and is currently appointed as Staff Specialist, Adult Mental Health Unit at Hornsby Ku-Ring-Gai Hospital. In addition to his interest in delivering equitable psychiatric care to rural and remote populations, he has substantial experience working with patients and families from culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and is fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese and Malay. 

Dr Lau has special skills in neurostimulation utilising TMS as a newer treatment modality for medication-resistant depression, anxiety, OCD, PTSD and auditory hallucination. He has pursued further interest in psychedelic assisted therapy through his affiliation with the Mind Medicine Australia and TMS Australia. 

Dr Lau is able to provide telehealth services, especially for rural and remote Australian population.
