Professor Krishnaswamy was Head, Deputy Dean and Professor of Psychiatry at Penang Medical College (part of National University of Ireland) from 2005 to 2009 and prior to that Professor of Psychiatry at the National University of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. In 1995 she was conferred the Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2009. In Australia she has worked in the public sector in South Australia, and New South Wales as consultant psychiatrist in mainly acute general psychiatry.
In the last three years Professor Krishnaswamy has been working in private practice in Sydney while continuing part-time public work and a conjoint academic at the University of New South Wales and University of Western Sydney. She has now moved to Melbourne to be with family and is a part-time consultant psychiatrist at Monash Health and works privately at Albert Road Clinic and Masada Private Hospital.
