Dr Brian Wu is a consultant psychiatrist at Ramsay Clinic New Farm. He works with adults and young adults experiencing a range of mental health difficulties, including mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, trauma-related conditions, substance use disorders, and complex dual-diagnosis presentations.
Dr Wu has an interest in addiction psychiatry and the developmental pathways that contribute to addiction, including trauma, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, and co-occurring mental health conditions. He is experienced working across both inpatient and outpatient settings and values the role of multidisciplinary care in supporting recovery.
His approach is collaborative, trauma-informed and formulation-driven. Dr Wu aims to understand each person’s symptoms in the context of their broader life story, relationships, strengths, vulnerabilities and recovery goals. He believes that effective psychiatric care is not simply about treating symptoms, but about working with patients to develop a shared understanding of their difficulties and a treatment plan that feels meaningful and achievable.
Where appropriate, Dr Wu also values the involvement of families and carers as part of a person’s recovery. He recognises that mental illness and addiction often affect relationships, and that healing can involve rebuilding trust, improving communication, and helping patients and their supports work together with greater understanding.
Dr Wu is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and has undertaken advanced training in addiction psychiatry. He is also involved in teaching and academic psychiatry through his role with the University of Queensland.
