You do not need a doctor’s referral to book an appointment (in person or via telehealth) at Ramsay Psychology Southport. However, if you have been referred by your GP with a Mental Health Treatment Plan, you will be able to claim a Medicare rebate. This will cover part of the cost of a number of sessions in a calendar year. Your doctor can address the referral to Ramsay Psychology or specifically to one of our psychologists. If you do not already have a Mental Health Treatment Plan and you wish to access this rebate, contact your GP or psychiatrist.
Clients who hold private health insurance may be eligible for a partial refund. Contact your health fund for more information.
Ramsay Psychology psychologists and practice staff offer concessions and fee structures for individuals who are Concession Card Holders, or covered by NDIS (self-funded only), MAIC, OSHC and WorkCover. These are assessed on a case-by-case basis.

Ramsay Psychology provides psychometric testing. This is a process by which a person’s cognitive, psychological, emotional and behavioural functioning is comprehensively assessed through a detailed interview and standardised testing. Psychometric testing may be needed for a new or corrected diagnosis of certain conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Learning Disorders and Dementia.

Dr Sophia Franks is a clinical psychologist with over twenty-four years of experience working as a psychologist within both public and private sectors in the areas of child and adolescent, perinatal, and adult psychiatry. She takes an empathic and research-based approach to providing psychological care, working closely with individuals and families to support their mental health, well-being and functioning. Dr Franks completed her PhD in the Department of Anaesthesia and Pain at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne. During this time, she was appointed to a senior psychology position and was awarded a Murdoch Institute grant for her research, which the International Association published for the Study of Pain.
