Brendan is a Registered Psychologist and Registered Exercise Professional with a particular interest in the assessment and treatment of ADHD and related issues including anxiety, challenging behaviour, screentime, emotional regulation and resilience in children and adults.
Brendan has more than 20 years’ experience in the education sector working with children and their families. Much of this time has been focussed on children and adolescents impacted by anxiety, family stress and ADHD. Brendan has extensive lived experience with ADHD and understands first-hand how ADHD can impact school performance and behaviour at home and at school. Brendan is passionate about helping parents better understand, support and advocate for their children with ADHD.
For adults, ADHD can profoundly impact productivity at work, relationships and the ability to be a calm, consistent parent.
Many parents have experienced long wait times for an ADHD assessment for their child. Other parents and adults delay ADHD assessments for their child or themselves due to stigma, concerns about medication or simply not recognising how the three core symptoms of ADHD manifest. The assessment process will help clients improve their understanding of ADHD. Brendan can also help clients develop and implement a targeted treatment plan, based on the new Australian ADHD Professionals Association (AADPA) Australian Evidenced-Based Guidelines for ADHD.
Brendan’s recent training and professional learning in anxiety, autism and ADHD highlights the powerful effect of parent-focussed interventions in improving outcomes for their children. As an experienced Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) facilitator, Brendan uses a warm, engaging, educative and collaborative approach for child-related work.
