Other conditions

Mental health conditions are wide ranging. People can experience different mental health challenges at different times in their lives or following different life experiences.

A number of Ramsay Mental Health services offer a general mental health ward, to care for patients experiencing general mental health issues and mood disorders, such as anxiety and depression.

Group and Individual Therapy

Group therapy is a type of psychotherapy that involves one or more therapists working with several people at the same time. This type of therapy is an integral component of the therapeutic practise delivered in our Ramsay Mental Health hospital and day patient clinics. It is available and delivered on a daily basis by different members of the multi-disciplinary team. While Group Therapy can be used alone, it is commonly integrated into a comprehensive, individualised treatment recovery care plan that may also include individual therapy and medication.

Communication

Effective communication is an important element in healthy relationships and forms the basis of dealing with conflict successfully. For many of us, communicating our needs and how we are feeling can be very difficult at times, even with those closest to us. Whilst attending the group therapy sessions we aim to help you understand your particular style of communicating and dealing with conflict, to identifying strengths and weakness in your current approach and ultimately to provide you with strategies to communicate effectively.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the act of making a conscious decision and paying attention to whatever you are doing, right now. Mindfulness meditation is one way that we can respond to painful thoughts, feelings and sensations with acceptance. Mindfulness engages in five particular skills;

  • Observing,
  • Describing,
  • Acting with awareness,
  • Non- judging of inner experience and non-reactivity to inner experience.

Whilst stating with us at Ramsay Clinic Shepparton, you will practise mindfulness on a daily basis.

Stress / lifestyle management

Stress is the emotional and physical response to pressure. Pressure can arise from factors that are external to you such as life events, illness of self or someone close, your social environment, living conditions, work, home, family pressures, study and lack of overall support. Stress can often arise from the expectations that you might place upon yourself. For some people even enjoyable occasions can be stressful. Making small changes and taking a step back whilst looking at your situation from a different perspective can make all the difference.
